Choreography for Theater & Film

// Theater

I've been involved in Musical Theater since childhood.

Dance for theater has it's own special challenges, as the dancers frequently must be able to execute the movement while singing, and the dances must help move a scene along. I've had the opportunity to choreograph Once On This Island, several productions of Aladdin Jr. for youth performers, and one of my favorite shows, Cabaret.

In addition to working in theater as a choreographer, I've recently returned to the stage as a Musical Theater performer, being part of an innovative and fun production of Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, which featured the Oompa Loompas as a travelling band of Solid Gold Disco dancers, at Berkeley Playhouse

// Film

Dance for film has many of it's own quirks. Unlike a dance for the stage, which is designed to be seen from one angle and in 'one take', dance for film can be performed to many different angles, and is frequently cut into shorter segments to allow for changes of scenery and costume. This allows the choreographer to create choreographies that span large periods of time or geography, or convey several different moods throughout one short piece. I've choreographed for short films, as well as music video style pieces and love the challenges of creating for film.
